Can labeling be automated?

What the job actually is
Somebody applies labels to product, cases or pallets, often in a specific position and orientation that customers audit. It is repetitive, and placement errors cause chargebacks.
Signs it is worth automating
- Label placement errors are causing customer chargebacks.
- Labels go on several faces or positions per unit.
- Product sizes vary enough that a fixed applicator cannot cope.
- One cell could serve multiple lines or products.
What the cell looks like
In most cases a dedicated print and apply labeler, not a robot, and that is a much cheaper answer. A robot earns its place where labels go on multiple faces, on varying product sizes, or where the labeler must serve several lines.

When the answer is no

We would rather talk you out of a bad purchase than into one. If any of these describe your version of this job, the honest answer is probably not yet.
- A single fixed print and apply unit would solve it for a fraction of the cost. Price that first.
- Volumes are low and placement tolerance is generous.
- Your real problem is label stock or printer reliability rather than application.
- Surfaces are curved, textured or contaminated in ways nobody has tested application on.
What an engineer has to verify
- Whether a dedicated print and apply labeler solves it without a robot.
- Placement tolerance the customer actually enforces.
- Surface condition and curvature where labels land.
- Label stock behavior in your plant's temperature and humidity.
- Whether label data must come from a live system and how.
Safety is not on that list because it is not ours to determine. Cell design, guarding and the risk assessment belong to an independent certified integrator, every time.
