Can a drone inspect a sewer?
Between manholes there are miles of pipe nobody should have to walk, and crawlers only see what they can reach.
Large diameter sewers, interceptors, culverts and stormwater tunnels need condition assessment: cracks, corrosion, infiltration, debris, and the slow structural failures that end as sinkholes on the evening news. The traditional tools are CCTV crawlers, which are slow, tethered and stopped by debris, and human entry, which in a sewer is as bad as work gets.
A collision tolerant drone flies the pipe between access points, documenting condition at walking-pace speed without the walking. Flights launch and recover at manholes and outfalls, cover reaches a crawler would take a shift to traverse, and pass over the debris and flow that strand wheeled equipment. In tunnels and box culverts, mapping payloads can produce geometry good enough to quantify deformation, not just photograph it.
The operational reality is wet, dark, foul and GPS denied, and signal does not pass through soil, so line of sight and relay strategy inside the pipe are part of mission planning. This is a domain where hiring a specialized operator often beats owning, because the operators bring the hard won tricks with them.

What it takes
Caged aircraft comfortable in wet, contaminated, GPS denied space, with lighting and often LiDAR mapping payloads. Decontamination procedure for everything that comes out. Communications planning for beyond line of sight reaches inside the pipe, which is its own specialist conversation.
When a drone is the wrong answer
Small diameter pipe belongs to crawlers and push cameras; a drone needs air to fly in. If flow can be diverted and the pipe is walkable-clean, conventional inspection may cost less. And where the deliverable must integrate into an existing pipe condition scoring workflow, confirm the software path before anyone flies.
